5. Vote for FAIR TRADE

Political election humor LOG

The U.S. economy is going down the tubes for reasons other than government overspending. We’re importing more goods than we’re exporting. The U.S. is experiencing a ballooning trade deficit, and the country pounding on us the most is China.

U.S. exports of goods and services hit an all-time high of $141.7 billion in October 2007. However, our imports increased to $199.5 billion. A good portion, $25.9 billion, of those imports come from China - that's an increase of 9.1 percent and a single-month record.

We have lost 3 million manufacturing jobs to overseas outsourcing since 2000. China is taking advantage of America, and our politicians are letting it happen.

China is guilty of numerous unfair trade practices, and human rights violations. The Chinese government allows its currency to remain undervalued, causing U.S. goods to be more expensive in China, while China's products cost less in America-- an obvious contributor to the deficit.

It’s not all our politicians’ or China's fault. We, the American consumer, keep buying products from China at an increasing rate.

FINDING "MADE IN USA" PRODUCTS IS HARDER THAN WINNING THE LOTTO

We go to retail stores like Wal-Mart, which purchase a substantial number of products from China
in order to save a buck or two for the American consumer. Unfortunately, we ended up with lead-painted toys and inferior-quality products.

Why can’t we make toys in America? Do you need a rocket science degree?

Is it really that hard to make toys here or some of the other products that have been outsourced to Asia? (I’m going to look into this.) It’s cheaper to manufacture products in Asia, but manufacturers should consider other key points such as logistics, time to market, competitive secrecy, proximity to the consumer.

Toyota is building plants in the U.S while we look to outsource manufacturing to the rest of the world. I don’t get it.

I THINK I'LL OUTSOURCE MYSELF

Da, da, da. If I can find a hundred people in China to write this blog, I can leisurely sit on the beach, enjoy the sun and drink Corona.

China's government does a great job protecting their own markets. Here’s one example. Everyone in the world wants to see American-made films Like Pirates of the Caribbean, Spider Man, and National Treasure. However, China protects their own film industry by limiting the number of foreign films shown. Besides, why import it when you can pirate the film and sell it on every street corner in China for  a buck or two? The Chinese government does nothing to protect intellectual property from other countries.

Here’s another example of China's protectionism. China has few restrictions on copyrights or patents. Unscrupulous Chinese companies are able to take your ideas and run with it. China’s government will do very little or nothing to punish them.

I wonder how Putin would deal with China if he was President of United States. (I’m going to research how he deals with China now.)

HEY! If you’re interested in writing some political blogs for this website before the next election, please submit your resume and a political writing sample - preferably with humor. You must be able to write in English (I’m still learning Spanish) and you must be a smart ass.

The U.S. has to stop outsourcing our jobs just to save a few bucks. I'd pay a few dollars more to have safe products. I will buy NOTHING from China.
