HUCK FINN COMMENTS: I'm not trying to do Bush bashing here, but it's incredible how 'out of touch' the Bush administration is when it comes to international policies and relations. President Bush recently flew to the Middle East to (1) promote democracy, (2) promote peace, (3) get more oil and (4) sell military weapons for American defense contractors.
Bushes Middle East Trip
Report Card:
(1) Promote Democracy - F
(2) Promote Peace - F
(3) Get more oil - F+
(4) Sell more weapons - C
After oil rising to $90s and $100s, you'd think our president could sell at least $100 billion dollars of American-made weapons to Saudi Arabia or some of the other Middle East countries who aren't fond of Iran. Saudi Arabia is booming. They can afford to buy weapons.
Bummer, the money isn't being circulated as we want it:
American consumers pays for high prices of oil ==> money goes to Middle East ==> Middle East uses the money to buy more weapons from Unites States.
Instead, the money is being circulated like this:
American consumers pays for high prices of oil ==> money goes to Middle East ==> Middle East uses the money to buy stakes in American companies such as CITI and Merrill Lynch.
At least the money is being circulated in a peaceful manner.
In the mean time, we're looking to pick a fight with Russia over some ideological Democracy theories. I'm looking forward to Bush making the trip to China to promote democracy there too.
I drew this cartoon to make light of the serious situation we'll face if OPEC doesn't increase their output in February.
The only POSITIVE news is that with a recession here (or according to some analysts, "almost" here), the demand for oil will drop due to the slowing economy ==> which will make the price of oil drop ==> which will further result in lower consumption and demand of oil globally due to American recession affecting global markets ==> which will put less money into Saudi Arabia coffers ==> which will further drop the price of oil since they will lower their production output ==> which will allow our auto manufacturers to build more trucks, SUVs and Hummers because of the price of oil further going down.
What do you think about Bush's trip to Middle East? Was he successful? How do you think we should deal with the Russians?
What would Putin do? How would he handle the Middle East if he was the President of United States?
