HUCK FINN COMMENTS: According to one poll, 19% of Americans believe we are in recession and 57% believe we're going into recession within the next 12 months. The media and  analysts aren't willing to say we're in recession until we've had 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth. Yeah, tell that to my banker, my credit card companies, my school loans, and to my phone company.

I see lots of folks getting hammered. Fear is setting in. I think the government knows we're recession and...

that's why George Bush and Congress are pushing for the $150 billion package. (Bush and Congress did the same thing in 2001 and it got us out of it. Again, they're encouraging the American consumer to spend.)

This time'll be different. American taxpayers won't spend when they receive the tax rebate. They'll use the money to pay off some of their ridiculously high credit card debt or put it into savings - or just pay one of their sky-high electric bills. Our government forgets the price of oil is 3 to 4 times higher than in 2001.

High oil price is the killer. The rebate's really an inflation adjuster for the high price of oil which has increased every other price in the system. Remember, sh*% flows down hill. What're the odds we're in recession? Are they lower or higher than New England Patriots having a "perfect" season?

What would Putin do? How would he bail our asses out?
